From Naked to Supersport
Long-time viewers will remember my Yamaha XJ6-N – my first motorcycle and first ride to experience the alps on two wheels. After having swapped the engine due to a catastrophic chain snap and multiple aesthetic modifications along the way as well as going for a ride with subscribers, I decided that it was time for a step up. Always fond of the supersport motorcycles howling through the valley, I had fallen in love with the Yamaha YZF-R6. Long story short, I got one!
Introducing the Yamaha YZF-R6.
Black and Gold from 2006
The Yamaha YZF-R6 I chose and picked up on a long trip to Vienna was not coincidental: I had specifically looked for a 2006 model with the engine code RJ11. This model features the USD (upside-down) coilovers that were introduced in motorsports at the time. It was also the first of its kind to use ride-by-wire technology: “YCC-T” (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle) enhances throttle response, providing smoother acceleration and better control.
Having won 10 world championships in motorsport racing, the Yamaha YZF-R6 is loved by many enthusiasts and has earned a legendary title. It’s no surprise that I wanted to call one my own. Having ridden an R1 previously, I sort of knew what to expect – but boy was I in for a fun ride! Watch my video where I pick up my new Yamaha YZF-R6!
