As I get closer to putting my Yamaha XJ6N back on the road, it's time to prepare the new engine for installation! In this video, we swap key components from my old engine to the new one, including the generator, starter motor, throttle body, multiple covers, and more. Along the way, we clean, inspect, and test each part to ensure everything is in top shape. Winter Drive in the Mountains.
In this video, it is finally time to take my engine out of my #yamaha XJ6N! Following the plan from the last episode, we start by draining fluids, removing key components, and carefully working our way from top to bottom. With plenty patience, David and I manage to lower the engine out of the frame successfully. Seeing the bike without an engine is such a surreal momentā€”my first engine swap is officially underway! Taking out my engine! | Ep. 6
Itā€™s finally happeningā€”Iā€™ve got a replacement engine for my Yamaha XJ6N! After the chain snapped during an accident, it shattered the clutch actuator assembly, bent the clutch rod, and even left a hole in the crankcase. I gave it my best shot, replacing parts, sealing up the damage, and getting the bike running again. But during the test ride, second gear started making an awful rattling noise, pointing to deeper issues with the gearbox. At the suggestion of a professional bike mechanic, I decided that it was time to swap the entire engine. Finally, it is almost time for Lars' driving exam! In this last drive with us video we are testing Lars' driving skills that he has acquired over 3000km of driving. The "L17" is a special program in Austria which allows 17 year olds to get their driver's license, granted they complete 3000kms of driving experience with a passenger who already has a driver's license. Autumn Drive in the Austrian Alps
After having finished all repairs we thought necessary, it was finally time to test ride my Yamaha XJ6N! In this video I took it for a ride and was unpleasantly surprised with a loud rattling noise whenever I let go of the accelerator in second gear. After various discussions, taking out the oil pan and going back and forth to a specialist, I finally decided that the best and safest solution would be to replace the engine. To answer the question of why I didn't replace the engine in the first place: we thoroughly checked all broken parts as well as the functionality of the gearbox before starting the repairs. We also didn't find any metal parts or even just glitter that would make internal damage certain. It seemed entirely possible to fix the bike. We acted on the knowledge we had and were unpleasantly surprised at this discovery that could only be made during a real test ride. Welcome to Part 3 of the Yamaha XJ6 repair series! After addressing the dented crankcase and replacing several broken parts in the previous episodes, itā€™s time to replace my bike's chain! Chain & Sprocket Replacement | Ep. 3
Join me for my first big motorcycle trip through the Alps! Over three days, my friend and I took on some of the most scenic and challenging mountain passes in Austria, Switzerland, and Italy, covering over 700 kilometers and six epic passes. Riding my dadā€™s Triumph Speed Triple 955i while David brought his Honda 650R, we cruised along crystal-clear lakes, winding roads, and towering mountains. This journey through the Alps included breathtaking rides over the Malojapass, San Bernardino Pass, SplĆ¼genpass, and more. From LƤngenfeld in Austria to Chiavenna in Italy, our adventure kicked off with smooth roads, open landscapes, and a first taste of mountain passes. Day two pushed us further as we passed stunning lakes and tackled two back-to-back passes with nearly endless turns. And on our last day, we returned home, taking on three more challenging passes, including the iconic Reschenpass. Welcome to Part 2 of the Yamaha XJ6 repair series! After fixing the dented crankcase in the previous episode, itā€™s time to tackle the next phase of the repair. In this video, Iā€™ll be replacing key broken partsā€”starting with the bent clutch rod and the damaged clutch actuator assembly. Iā€™ll also be removing the crankcase cover again to clean off old sealant and properly reseal it. Finally, Iā€™ll finish up with a full oil and filter change to get the bike prepped. Clutch fix, oil change & first startup test! | Ep. 2
In todayā€™s video, I am adressing the elephant in the room that is my bike's dented crankcase after a snapped chain. Starting with a thorough cleaning of the area, I discovered several hairline cracks. To get things started, I used my trusty Dremel to grind down the surface and prep it for repair. Once everything was exposed, I applied a specialised aluminium glue to seal it up and prevent any future leaks. This was a crucial step in getting the bike back in shape, and Iā€™m excited to see how the repair holds up.
